Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai, hosted the book presentation of “Celebrating Tolerance, the Religious Diversity in The United Arab Emirates” in the Sikh Temple on February 19, 2019.
Surender Kandhari along with Ian Fairservice, Managing Partner and Group Editor in Chief of Motivate Publishing, presented the book to H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, President of Zayed University. Rahul Srivastava of the Indian Consulate also attended the event as well as representatives of neighboring churches in Jebel Ali Dubai.
The book is a collection of stories narrating the experiences of ten different faiths that coexist peacefully in the UAE. Representatives of each faith gave an overview of its migration to the UAE during the early 1960s and 1970s. It also transcribes religious practices that makes the book an interesting read.
The book was edited by The Reverend Canon Andrew Thompson from the Anglican Church in Abu Dhabi, the book celebrates the 2019 Year of Tolerance in the UAE. It is also the first of its kind, echoing messages of tolerance and solidifying the country’s tolerant views and acceptance of diverse group of people from all over the world. The book was published by Motivate Publishing.
“In behalf of the Sikh community as well as the Indian community, we thank the UAE government for their support not only to our religion but to other religions as well. India and UAE share the same values of interfaith understanding and respect.
Gurudwara Sikh temple is also a community center open to serve the congregation and visitors from other faith groups. We thank everyone who came today to share this special occasion with us in celebrating tolerance” said Surender Singh Kandhari.
